How do you actually know when an XLIM pod needs replacing?

I'm getting better at vaping but I'm still not entirely sure when to replace my XLIM pods. Sometimes I swap them out and they still taste decent. Other times I leave them and get hit with a burnt taste. What are the actual signs that a pod needs replacing?

The main signs are: noticeable drop in flavour intensity, slight burnt or plasticky taste (especially at the start of a draw), gurgling or spitback, or reduced vapour production. If any of those start happening it's time to change.

For me, I just make a mental note when I fill a pod for the first time. If I'm around 7-10 days in and notice any of those signs, I swap it. Don't wait until it's obviously bad – subtle flavour drop is usually the first warning.

Visibility check as well – hold the pod up to the light. If the mesh/cotton inside has turned noticeably darker or you can see dark gunk buildup, the coil is going. Fresh cotton is usually pale, gunked coils look much darker. It's surprisingly easy to see once you know what you're looking for.

The visibility check is really useful, I'd never thought of doing that. Checked my current pod and it's noticeably darker than when I started it. Will replace it now rather than waiting. Cheers both.
