The Right E-Liquid for Every OXVA Device

Every OXVA device runs best on a specific type of e-liquid, and the difference is not subtle. Put a thick 70/30 shortfill through a 1.2 ohm XLIM pod and you will get weak flavour, dry hits and a coil that dies in two days. Match the liquid to the coil and the same pod lasts a week and tastes the way the reviews said it would. This guide gives you the exact liquid type, VG/PG ratio and nicotine strength for every current OXVA device, then explains the reasoning so you can judge any new liquid on the shelf.

The short version: almost every OXVA pod device wants 50/50 nic salts. The one real exception is the VPrime with its lowest-resistance pods, which is built for airier, higher-VG vaping at lower nicotine strengths.

Why the coil decides the liquid

Pod coils above roughly 0.8 ohm have small wicking ports and run at low wattage. Thin 50/50 liquid flows through those ports fast enough to keep the cotton saturated between puffs. Thicker high-VG liquid cannot: the cotton dries at the centre, the coil scorches, and you taste burning within a day or two. That is not a faulty pod, it is a viscosity mismatch, and it is the single most common cause of the “my pods keep burning out” complaint we see in the support forum.

Below 0.6 ohm the logic flips. Low-resistance coils run hotter with bigger wicking ports and more airflow. Thin 50/50 liquid floods them, causing gurgling and spitback, and 20mg salts through a warm, airy coil are unpleasantly harsh. That is why the VPrime’s 0.2 ohm pod wants a 70/30 shortfill at low strength.

XLIM family: Pro 3, 3 Ultra, Go 2, Go Lite and EZ pods

Every XLIM device uses MTL (mouth-to-lung) pods between 0.6 and 1.2 ohm, so the liquid answer is the same across the family: 50/50 nic salt. Strength depends on you, not the device:

  • 20mg (or 18mg) nic salt: right if you are switching from a pack-a-day habit or from 20mg disposables. Smooth on the throat despite the number.
  • 10mg nic salt: the step-down strength, and the sweet spot for lighter smokers or anyone finding 20mg too much on a 0.6 ohm pod.
  • Freebase 3 or 6mg 50/50: works in 0.6 ohm XLIM pods if you prefer more throat hit and vape steadily through the day, but salts stay smoother.

One XLIM-specific tip: the 0.6 ohm pod runs warmer and brings out sweeter, dessert-style flavours; the 0.8 ohm is cooler and suits fruits, menthol and tobacco. If a flavour tastes muted, try it in the other resistance before blaming the liquid. Our best e-liquids for XLIM pods guide ranks specific bottles we have run through both.

NeXLIM and NeXLIM Go

The NeXLIM’s dual-mesh UNITECH coils are the most flavour-dense pods OXVA makes, and they are also efficient wickers, so they tolerate a slightly wider range: 50/50 salts are still the default, and well-made 50/50 freebase juice also performs well at the 0.6 ohm end. Stick to 10mg salts on the 0.6 ohm pod unless you genuinely need 20mg; the dual mesh delivers nicotine noticeably faster than single-coil pods. The 4ml NeXLIM cartridges also mean a bad liquid choice wastes twice as much juice, so test new flavours in a nearly-empty pod first.

VPrime: the one that breaks the rules

The VPrime is OXVA’s output device, and its pods span two different liquid worlds:

  • 0.4 and 0.6 ohm pods: restricted DTL or loose MTL. 50/50 works, 60VG works better. 5 to 10mg salts or 6mg freebase.
  • 0.2 ohm pod: proper sub-ohm territory. Use 70/30 shortfills at 3 to 6mg. Putting 20mg salt through this pod is genuinely unpleasant and will empty the pod in an afternoon.

If you own a VPrime and mostly vape 50/50 salts, buy the 0.6 ohm pods and treat it as a big-battery MTL device. See the VPrime pod guide for the full pod-by-pod breakdown.

UniOne and SlimStick: the low-effort end

The UniOne takes 10ml prefilled-style pods but its refillable 0.8 ohm cartridge wants exactly what the XLIM does: 50/50 nic salt, 10 or 20mg. The SlimStick and SlimStick X are prefilled only, so there is no liquid decision to make; you choose flavour and strength when you buy the pods. If you like the SlimStick format but want to pick your own liquid, the XLIM Go 2 is the natural refillable step up.

The three mistakes that kill pods

  1. Shortfills in MTL pods. 70VG liquid in a 0.8 or 1.2 ohm pod is the number one pod killer. If the bottle says 70/30 or “shortfill”, it belongs in the VPrime 0.2 ohm pod or in a different device entirely.
  2. Sweetened dessert liquids on repeat. Heavily sweetened juice caramelises on the coil. It is fine as a treat; as an all-day vape it will halve pod life. Fruits, menthols and tobaccos gunk far less.
  3. Vaping a pod dry. Once the cotton scorches, no refill rescues it. Top up when the window shows a third left. Our pod lifespan guide covers the full replace-or-refill decision.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use 70/30 shortfills in my XLIM?

Not in the standard pods. The wicking ports are too small for thick liquid, so you get burnt taste and a dead coil within days. The only OXVA pod happy with 70/30 is the VPrime 0.2 ohm.

Is 20mg nic salt too strong for the XLIM Pro 3?

Not if you are switching from smoking or from 20mg disposables; on the 0.8 ohm pod it is the closest match to a cigarette. On the warmer 0.6 ohm pod many people find 10mg is enough.

Do different flavours affect coil life?

Yes, significantly. Heavily sweetened liquids can halve pod life through coil gunk. Menthol, fruit and tobacco profiles are the kindest to coils.

What is the difference between nic salt and freebase?

Nic salts are smoother at high strengths and absorb faster, which suits low-power pod devices. Freebase has more throat hit and suits lower strengths. For most OXVA pods, salts are the better everyday choice.
