I keep seeing people mention "priming" their pods but nobody explains exactly what that means. What is it and how do you do it properly? I've been just filling and vaping straight away and I wonder if I've been doing it wrong this whole time.
Priming just means giving the cotton wick inside the pod time to fully absorb the e-liquid before you start vaping. If you fire immediately after filling, the heat from the coil vaporises before the cotton is saturated, which can give a burnt taste and potentially damage the coil permanently.
How to prime properly:
1. Fill the pod with your liquid.
2. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes (put the kettle on and come back).
3. Optionally take 3-4 "primer puffs" – draw on the mouthpiece without pressing the fire button. This draws liquid through without heat.
4. Start vaping normally at a lower wattage for the first draw, then bring it up to your normal level.
It feels like overkill but it genuinely extends pod life significantly and eliminates that cotton/burnt taste on first use.
I had no idea about priming when I first got my kit and went through several pods in the first week. Since I started doing the 5-minute wait I haven't had a single burnt new pod. It really is that simple.
That explains so much! I thought burnt taste on new pods was just how it was. Going to prime my next one properly and see the difference. Cheers for the proper step-by-step!
