Going away next month and I want to bring my XLIM rather than buying disposables abroad. What are the actual rules for flying with a vape in the UK? I have read conflicting things online and do not want it confiscated at the airport. Pods, device, liquid - what is allowed and where does it go?
The UK and US rules are the same and straightforward: the device itself is fine, but liquid has to go in checked baggage only, not carry-on. Carry-on is a no for any liquid over 100ml or for the pod itself if it is wet. In your checked bag, pack the device with the pod removed and empty, and put the liquid in a zip-lock bag by itself - even small 10ml bottles can leak under pressure and a leak inside your luggage is worse than one caught at security. The device has a lithium battery so technically it should be in checked rather than carry-on, but the rules are inconsistently enforced. To be completely safe, pack it checked. One crucial step most people miss: check the rules for where you are flying to, not just where you are flying from. Vaping is legal in Spain, Greece, Turkey and most popular holiday destinations, but it is completely banned in Thailand and Singapore with actual fines, and Dubai has partial restrictions. I took mine to Spain last summer and just packed it like any other device in the checked bag. Nobody batted an eyelid at security. The zip-lock for the liquid is the bit that actually matters - one person's open pod in their bag is a mess for everyone.
Thailand is the one to watch. A mate got his confiscated and fined - turned out it is actually illegal there, not just frowned upon. Worth that five-minute destination check before you go.
Brilliant, so checked bag, remove the pod, zip-lock the liquid. I am going to Greece so that is a tick, and I will grab some pods there if I run short rather than trying to bring more liquid. Cheers for the destination warning too.
