Hello everyone. I gave up cigarettes on January 1st after 25 years (about 20 a day) and I've replaced them with the XLIM Pro 3 my daughter helped me buy. I'm getting along okay but I'm worried I'm doing something wrong because it doesn't feel 100% the same as a cigarette.
Is it normal for vaping to feel slightly different even when it's working properly? And am I allowed to ask for help on this forum even though I'm a complete beginner? Everyone here seems so knowledgeable!
Mike, this forum is absolutely for beginners and you're asking in exactly the right place. Congratulations on making the switch – 25 years and going cold turkey on the cigarettes takes real commitment.
Yes, it will feel different from cigarettes, and that's completely normal. Your mouth and lungs are used to a very specific sensation and nicotine delivery pattern. Vaping delivers nicotine differently – slightly slower and through different receptors. Most people adjust to this within 1-3 weeks. In the meantime, if you feel the urge for a cigarette, take a few extra draws on the XLIM – the nicotine is there, it just takes a few moments longer to register.
The first two weeks are the hardest. After that most people stop noticing the difference.
I was exactly where you are 18 months ago – 20+ a day for over 20 years. The "not quite the same" feeling does pass. What helped me: using the XLIM more frequently in the early weeks rather than less (you can't overdose on nic salts in the same way), and keeping it charged so it's always there when the urge hits.
It gets much easier. Stick with it.
Thank you both so much. It's very reassuring to hear from people who've been through the same thing. I'll persist through the first few weeks. Already on day 3 without a cigarette which is the longest I've managed in 25 years. Feeling cautiously optimistic!
